On Tuesday 11th February, Sir Martin Davidson KCMG, CEO of the British Council, gave GSF’s February lecture in an event chaired by GSF Advisory Board member, the Rt Hon the Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC.

To a packed audience in the National Liberal Club, Sir Martin said that the UK needed to think about how ‘we express national influence in a much broader and more sophisticated way’ and he made the point that there should not be a binary choice between either soft power or hard power, but that ‘great powers need to operate across a wide spectrum in a turbulent, noisy and challenging world’.
