The June 2015 Debate II – ‘The Turkish Election Result: What Does It Mean For Turkey And Its International Relations?’

IMG_0861On Tuesday 16th June, we were delighted to welcome to GSF, Dr. Esra Özyürek, Associate Professor and Chair for Contemporary Turkish Studies, European Institute, London School of Economics; John Peet, Europe editor of The Economist since 2003; and Sir David Reddaway, British Ambassador to Turkey from 2009 until January 2014. They took part in a discussion entitled ‘The Turkish Election Result: What Does It Mean For Turkey And Its International Relations?’, which was chaired by Lord Lothian.  All three panelists agreed that despite the uncertainty and potential for instability, particularly in the Turkish economy, the election result was good news for Turkish democracy and overall, good news for Turkey and Europe.
